Saving a public Instagram story on Android or a computer takes about ten seconds with a web downloader. Here is the full process, where files end up and what to do if something goes wrong.
On Android (Chrome, Samsung Internet, Firefox)
- In Instagram, open the profile, tap ⋮ → Copy profile URL.
- Open your browser and visit IGPVSTORY Story Downloader.
- Paste the link and tap Get stories.
- Tap Download on any story.
Files are saved in Internal storage → Download and show up in Google Photos or Gallery under "Download".
On Windows, Mac or Linux
- Copy the username or profile URL from instagram.com.
- Open the downloader and paste it in.
- Click Download. The file goes to your Downloads folder (Ctrl+J in Chrome shows it).
Downloading highlights and profile pictures
Use the Highlights Viewer for pinned stories, and the Profile Viewer for HD profile photos. Both have download buttons.
Common problems
- Download opens a new tab: right-click (or long-press) and choose "Save link as".
- Link expired: story links expire with the story. Reload results.
- Too many requests: wait a minute. Rate limits keep the service fast for everyone.
File formats
Photos are JPG and videos are MP4 (H.264/AAC), which play on every modern device.

Download Instagram stories on Android
- Open Chrome, Samsung Internet or Firefox and go to the IGPVSTORY Story Downloader.
- Paste the public username and tap Get stories.
- Tap Download under the photo or video you want.
- Open the notification or the Files app and look in Downloads. Google Photos usually picks up new images and videos from that folder automatically.
Android tips
- If a video opens in a new tab instead of downloading, long-press it and choose Download video.
- Samsung Internet sometimes saves to My Files → Downloads rather than the gallery. Move the file to DCIM if you want it in your camera roll.
- If storage is low, downloads can fail silently. Free up a little space and try again.
Download Instagram stories on Windows and Mac
- Open the Story Downloader in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- Enter the username and press Get stories.
- Click Download. The file goes to your browser's default Downloads folder.
- To pick a different location, change the download setting in your browser, or right-click the button and choose Save link as.
Desktop tips
- Story videos are MP4 files and play in the built-in players on Windows and macOS, as well as VLC.
- Photos are JPG files at up to 1080×1920, the native story resolution.
- If you download a lot for research, create a folder per account and rename files with the date so you can find them later.
Download highlights too
Stories that the owner pinned to a highlight can be saved the same way through the Highlights Viewer. Open a collection and use the Download button beneath each item.
Why downloads sometimes fail
Expired links
Instagram media links are temporary. If you leave the page open for a long time before downloading, the link may expire. Just search again.
Story already gone
Stories disappear after 24 hours unless they're in a highlight.
Private account
Only public content can be downloaded. No legitimate downloader can save stories from private profiles or Close Friends lists.
Quality: what to expect
IGPVSTORY doesn't re-encode files. You get the version the source provides, which is usually the highest quality Instagram serves for stories. Screen recordings, by comparison, capture the interface and lose sharpness.
Use downloads responsibly
Saving a public story for personal reference, such as a recipe, workout or event details, is generally fine. Re-posting it, removing watermarks or using it commercially requires the creator's permission. Rights holders can contact us through the DMCA page.
Ready to try it? Open the free Instagram Story Downloader. It works in any browser, with no login and no app.
Quick answers
Is there a limit to how many stories I can download?
There's no daily quota for normal use. Very rapid repeated searches are briefly rate-limited to keep the service fast and free for everyone.
Will the creator see that I downloaded their story?
No. Instagram doesn't notify about downloads, and because IGPVSTORY doesn't use your account, the view isn't recorded either.
Can I download stories on a Chromebook or Linux PC?
Yes. Any modern browser works. Files go to your Downloads folder like any other download.
